Improving Mechanical Properties of Biomass Composites by Using CNF Blended Ternary Master Batch

Nowadays, concerns about the environmental pollution of plastic waste such as PE and PP are increasing. Therefore, in order to replace those non-biodegradable petroleum-based plastics, some researches are conducted to manufacture CNF composite materials by using BioPE. However, Young's Modulus and Tensile strength were decreased while CNF were introduced due to dispersity and stiffening. To overcome this problem, we manufactured a ternary master batch consisting of BioPE-SEBS(styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene)-CNF. The dispersibility and aggregation of CNF were observed by SEM and EDS images according to each CNF content ratio, and the better mechanical properties (tensile strength 7%, elongation 16%) were analyzed by UTM. According to the result, we evaluated the development of basic technology and applicability of CNF master batch and secured compatibility to replace plastics in various industries.
