A Study on the Change in Properties of Composites through GNP content and surface treatment

As a super engineering plastic, PAEK has thermal stability, chemical stability and excellent mechanical properties. With this advantages, it can be applied to various fields such as automobiles, medical applications, and the aerospace industry. However, there are some properties that cannot be sufficiently satisfied by using PAEK polymer alone. Therefore, in order to fulfill these problems, addition of nano fillers is required. PAEK based materials, PEEK and PEKK were used. PEEKs with different viscosities and PEEKs with different MIs were used, and the characteristics of PEEK/GNP composites according to the GNP content were studied. Due to the nature of GNP, agglomeration of GNP mainly occurs, which affects the properties of composites. To solve this problem, the GNP surface was treated with a compatibilizer to improve dispersibility. Surface treatment using an amphiphilic compatibilizer improved the dispersibility of GNP, and had a good effect on improving the properties of the composites compared to the case of applying GNP without surface treatment.
