Fabrication of fluorescent nanoparticles using star-shaped block copolymer

For the preparation of nano-size carrier for chromophores, tetronic copolymer has been applied in this work. Tetronic block copolymers are star-shaped, which consist of 4 PEO-PPO block arms attached to the ethylenediamine group. Amphiphilic property leads to prepare micelles in solutions, and micelles can be used as a template to organosilica nanoparticles. Mesoporous organosilica (PMO) particles are formed by adding 2,5-bis(triethoxysilyl)thiphene silica precursor. In this study, tetraphenylethene and rhodamine B were used as fluorescent materials which were physically captured into the mesoporous structure. Systematic characterization was performed using electron microscopy to confirm the structure and size of PMOs. The interplay between chromophore and thiophene group inside the nanostructure were investigated using confocal microscopy, fluorescence emission and decay.
