Chiroptical neuromorphic phototransistor based on self-assembled nano-helix of π-conjugated diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) organogelator

With the increased attention to chiral optoelectronics based on circularly polarized light (CPL), the development of electronic devices that can convert the intensity and polarization direction of CPL to electronic signal becomes important. Chiral π-conjugated molecules are one of the most promising materials due to their strong chiroptical properties and simple processibility. In this presentation, a chiroptical phototransistor based on a newly synthesized chiral DPP organogelator (DPPPT) will be discussed. Inducing an H-bonding interaction in the organo-gelation process of DPPPT resulted in the formation of nano-helix with highly strong chiroptical activities. A chiroptical phototransistor based on heterojunction of DPPPT nano-helix and oxide semiconductor exhibited different photocurrent according to the polarization of CPL and interesting frequency-dependent plasticity behavior in the photocurrent. Based on this, a chiroptical neuromorphic image sensor with improved image recognition under CPL was successfully demonstrated through an artificial neural network learning process.
