Bioactive materials show performance and effects such as drug release, sensing and imaging according to given biological stimuli and environments, and are being applied to many biomedical technologies. In particular, thermoresponsive hydrogel (e.i. thermogel) has application potential in biomedical application due to its specific temperature sensitivity to human body. Moreover, bioimaging technology can visualize biological structures and conditions, providing important information for disease diagnosis and treatment. With taking advantage of Chitosan-based thermogel, here we design a new multifunctional thermogel by combining NIR photoactive organic dyes for both bioimaging and phototheraphy. A multifunctional NIR photoactive thermogels with high absorbance in the NIR-I band and high luminescence in the NIR-II band were designed and synthesized.
