Cellulose nanofiber (CNF) papers are susceptible to moisture and easily hygroscopically deformed. This drawback significantly limits the application of CNF papers in wet conditions and hygrothermal environments. Aramid nanofiber (ANF) is analogous to CNF and has nanoscale morphologies, high specific surface area, and a large aspect ratio. ANF inherits the excellent mechanical performances and thermostability of poly(p‑phenylene terephthalamide) fiber. In this study, ANF was used as a novel nanofiller to reinforce CNF papers via a simple vacuum filtration method. The mechanical strength, wet strength, UV shielding, and thermal stability of CNF/ANF composite papers were investigated.
