Polylactide (PLA) has gained commercial importance due to its biocompatibility, renewability, biodegradability, high tensile strength, and modulus. But PLA has some disadvantages such as brittleness and slow crystallization rate. Poly(3-hydroxy propionate) (P3HP), which is a storage compound synthesized by several metabolic processes, is also an aliphatic polyester known for its low melting temperature, flexibility, and good biodegradability. In this study, to modify and/or improve the properties and uses of PLA, a series of PLA/P3HP blend films were fabricated via solution casting. The morphological features, intermolecular interactions, and crystalline features of the blend films were characterized with the aid of POM, FT-IR, and XRD. The thermal transition, thermal stability, and mechanical properties of the blends were investigated using DSC, TGA, and tensile tests, respectively.
