Various crosslinking units can be introduced into polysilsesquioxane matrix to improve thermal insulation by foming intramolecular void spaces. In order to increase the high thermal insulating property, it is necessary that the large size of intramolecular void spaces is needed in the polysilsesquioxane matrix. In this study, oligomethylsilsesquioxane (MSQ-OH) is synthesized through a sol-gel reaction of triethoxymethylsilane. The obtained MSQ-OH is cross-linked with 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDGE), having a long chain to form void spaces between the molecules. The polysilsesquioxane film with improved thermal insulating property was obtained by increasing the size of intramolecular void spaces. The structured and thermal properties of polysilsesquioxane film were characterized by various analytical tools.
