The anion exchange membranes (AEMs) with high performances are highly demanded in anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs) and thus AEMs have been extensively studied. Therefore, in this study, triblock copolymer was synthesized by copolymerization of styrene with 2-bromoethyl acrylate using reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization and sequentially the amination of poly(2-bromoethyl acrylate) segment with various amines such as 1-methypyrrolidine, 1-methylimidazole and 1-methylpiperidine was performed to prepare midblock-quaternized poly(styrene-b-2-bromoethyl acrylate-b-styrene) as an AEM. Various characterizations of midblock-quaternized triblock copolymer were carried out to confirm its AEM properties. The synthetic results and characterizations of the midblock-quaternized triblock copolymer will be discussed in detail.
