Application of novel quinoxaline-based polymeric donor for non-fullerene organic solar cells.

An efficient polymeric donor for non-fullerene acceptor-based organic solar cells (NFA-OSCS) can be developed by converting a low- energy-converting quinoxaline-based polymer. In this study, alternating copolymer, P(BDTSi-DTfQ) was prepared by incorporating electron-rich BDTSi and electron-deficient DTfQ, compared their properties with P(BDTSi-DTffQ). As a result, there was a smaller band gap (Eg) in polymer P(BDTSi-DTfQ) with higher energy levels than P(BDTSi-DTffQ). The estimated Eg and HOMO/LUMO energies for P(BDTSi-DTfQ) were 1.90 eV and –5.46 eV/ –3.56 eV, for P(BDTSi-DTffQ) were 1.94 eV and –5.58 eV/ –3.64 Ev. PCE was 3.68% obtained for the NFA-OSCs created utilizing P(BDTSi-DTfQ) as a donor and ITIC as an acceptor, which is higher than the PCE obtained (0.75%) for the P(BDTSi-DTffQ):ITIC blend. P(BDTSi-DTfQ):ITIC showed well-matched energy levels, reducing bimolecular recombination, leading to increased PCE.
