Porous carbon is a pivotal material for electrochemical applications due to its high surface area and rapid intercalation/deintercalation of ion. We present a novel approach to preparing porous carbon nanospheres by inhibiting the pyrolytic condensation of polymers. Using ALD, we formed the oxide shell outside the polymer sphere. This oxide shell works as a supporting structure which keeps the nanosphere volume from shrinking. During the thermal process, the internal structure gets tensile stress in radial direction and this stress leads the pore formation. The shrinkage is analyzed by ex-situ TEM and XRD spectra. The porosity of porous carbon nanospheres is analyzed by BET pore volume and surface area.
