Photomultiplication-type Organic Photodetectors with Fast Response by Introducing a Gain-inducing Interlayer

Organic photodetectors (OPDs) with an operating mechanism known as photomultiplication (PM) are promising photodetectors because they show large external quantum efficiency (EQE) >100% therefore they can detect weak light and do not require current amplifier circuits in an image sensor. However, conventional PM OPDs require long response time (100 kHz) and the response time can be controlled by tuning the trapping dynamics of the interlayer. In addition, we demonstrate the PM can be occurred by ion migration when ions are within the PM inducing layer.
