Microplastics are currently known to affect not only the environment but also human health and recently have received extensive attention from numerous researchers all over the world. It is well known that microplastics can cause cancer, and the mechanism has already been studied through many articles, but there are still few studies on microplastics have been conducted whether they can promote cancer progression and affect cancer therapies. Recently, it has been demonstrated that cancer growth can be promoted, and cancer therapies can also be delayed by Polystyrene (PS) beads, but unfortunately, PS cannot represent all the plastic types since it is not a commonly used plastic in reality. In addition, since the surface and physical properties are different depending on the type of plastic, the effect on cancer cells may be different. Therefore, we investigated the adverse effects of microplastics on cancer progression and cancer therapies according to the polymer types.
