Charge Carriers Dynamics of Sequential Deposited Photoactive Layer in Organic Photovoltaics

It is important to understand the charge carrier transport and collection while optimizing bulk heterojunction morphology to enhance the performance of organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells. Recently reported sequential deposition (SD) method, alternative to the widely used blend deposition (BD) method, can enable better the morphology and device performance of the organic photovoltaic cells. However, the charge carrier dynamics in the SD method based-OPV cells have not yet been sufficiently studied. It would be important to realizing large scale roll to roll processed OPV panel. Here, we compare the charge carrier dynamics of BD or SD method-based OPV cells consisting of polymer donor PM6 and non-fullerene acceptor Y6 or BTP-eC9. The morphology of photoactive layers through BD or SD method is monitored by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and grazing incident wide-angle X-ray diffraction (GIWAXS). Nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (ns-TAS) analyzes the behavior of charge carrier dynamics appearing in nanosecond scale to check current density toward high PCE.
