Blood is a body fluid that is 6-8% of our body and maintains homeostasis and transports oxygen. In case of severe bleeding, effective hemostasis is essential for survival because it can cause shortness of breath and shock. In this study, highly absorbable chitosan/starch powder was fabricated by crosslinking using glyoxal. Blood coagulation factors, thrombin and Ca2+ ions, were introduced into a powder-type hemostatic agent crosslinked with chitosan and starch. The introduction of blood coagulation factors shortened the total coagulation time by about 3.5 times compared to the control group determined in the in vitro blood coagulation experiment, and reduced bleeding time and bleeded amount compared to commercial products. The introduction of PVP improved the adhesion of chitosan/starch powder to damaged tissue and prevented rebleeding. The PVP/CaCl2/thrombin incorporated powder is expected to be applied as a surgical hemostatic agent because of its excellent blood clotting ability and tissue adhesion.
