Recently, the demand of bio-degradable plastic has been increased such as poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT), due to plastic waste problem. Furthermore, to improve their thermal, mechanical properties, blending two materials has been conducted especially PLA and PBAT. However, the PLA/PBAT blends have a bad compatibility forming a sea-island morphology which induce fractures. To overcome this problem poly(hydroxyalkanoates)(PHA) was introduced into the PLA/PBAT blends. PHA enhanced morphological, thermal, mechanical characteristics of the ternary blends by acting as a compatibilizer surrounding the PBAT interfaces. Also, by increasing the biomass-based PHA contents, instead of the petroleum-based PBAT contents, it can further suggest the possibility of the sustainable plastics.
