War agents (WAs) are fatal toxic materials used in war and terrorism. To block WAs with various forms of delivery, personal protective cloths (PPCs) with activated carbon-derived adsorbents (ACs) are necessary. Activated carbon fabric (ACF) has a larger surface area and more functional groups than other ACs. so it is suitable for PPCs due to its high adsorption capacity, convenience, and stability. However, it should be stored in an arid condition to prevent deterioration of adsorption efficiency by moisture. It is very difficult to impart hydrophobicity to ACF while maintaining its micropores. In this study, a hydrophobic ACF (hACF) was prepared by coating a hydrophobic chain on the ACF surface. Micropore retention and selective adsorption of ACF were successfully achieved by controlling the coating time. Furthermore, the hACF is enhanced mechanical properties and defends against chemical and biological agents in a humid environment.
