Dynamic network exchange reaction allows covalent adaptable networks (CANs) to be malleable and reprocessable analogue of thermosetting polymers. Ascribing to thermally activated network exchange reaction, CANs generally require high temperature for processing and repairing. This limits many applications of CANs especially those should be maintained in mild conditions. To enable processing under mild conditions (i.e., room temperature), CAN bearing UV responsive dynamic network was newly synthesized. The resulting solid CAN could be repaired solely upon UV irradiation at room temperature. On the other hand, in the absence of the UV irradiation step, repairing was not achieved. In addition, faster stress relaxation upon UV irradiation further proved the accelerated dynamic exchange reactions caused by UV exposure. This UV responsive CAN will propose the new processing and repairing methods for the CAN, especially suitable for applications requiring repair in mild conditions.
