Photonic crystal based reflective displays have been actively researched since it can show clear structural colors with low power consumption. It utilizes the tunable reflection by Bragg’s law as the photonic crystal lattice changes as the voltage is applied. In this study, we developed a fluidic reflective display device based on colloidal photonic crystal by using a few polymer cores shell microspheres which was synthesized by emulsion polymerization. In order to give a clearer color, a core-shell structure with a difference in refractive index was adopted. A non polar medium was used to prevent chemical reactions occurring when an aqueous medium was used, and particle mobility was provided using charge control agents.
