Fluoroelastomers are receiving great attention in various fields owing to their outstanding properties. Particularly, their low surface energy and higher biocompatibility have recently aroused great interest in the medical and healthcare fields. However, they have a limitation in that the hydrophobic character can multiply bacteria rapidly giving rise to biofilm formation. Therefore, this presentation shows the creation of a high-functional fluoroelastomer with outstanding antibacterial properties by incorporating quaternary ammonium groups into VDF-based-copolymers. The mechanical and antibacterial properties were systematically analyzed using their films. Furthermore, the self-healing ability of this new antibacterial fluoroelastomer film was also observed. It is believed that our novel self-healable antibacterial fluoroelastomer can open new horizons for biomaterials.
