On-demand and Fast Recyclable Bio-epoxy and Application to Composites

Epoxy resin (EP) exhibits excellent mechanical properties, thermal stability, and chemical resistance due to the role of network structure. However, due to this network structure, the EP exhibits insoluble and infusible properties and make it impossible to recycling of EP applications. In order to solve these problems, the research on chemically degradable EPs have recently attracted attention. The most important point is that application products such as structural composites using EP need to maintain stable physical properties until we decompose them due to the need for recycling. That is, the decomposition reaction needs to occur only when we want it to. In this presentation, I will introduce the design of bio-based epoxy resin to solve the toxicity problem of bisphenol A and the concept of on-demand recycling, which can be recycled by chemical decomposing only when necessary while maintaining long-term performance when applied to composites.
