Synthesis of n-type A-A Conjugated Polymers and Research of Organic Solar Cell Device Properties.

Conducting polymers are in the limelight as semiconductor materials that can replace inorganic materials due to their flexibility and low cost. Although many research groups have explored n-type conjugated polymers based on acceptor-acceptor (A-A) design motif, synthesis of A-A type polymers is tricky due to their electron-deficiency character leading to low reactivity. In this study, we synthesized two A-A type polymers (IDIC-BTI & IDSIC-BTI) by Stille coupling of a distannylated electron-deficient bithiophene imide (BTI-Tin) monomer and two different dibrominated IDT (indacenodithiophene) derivatives. The optical and electronic properties were studied in detail by UV-Vis spectroscopy, Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), and Grazing-Incidence Wide-Angle X-ray Scattering (GIWAXS) analysis. We also fabricated Inverted organic solar cells and investigated indoor device performances. The relationship between molecular structures, physical properties and device characteristics will be presented.
