Herein, (α-methylguanido)acetic acid, which is called creatine is introduced to passivate the defects in perovsktite using two methods: (1) Additive engineering for bulk perovskite passivation (2) Interface engineering for the surface passivation. Surprisingly, when surface passivation method is introduced, 2d perovskite layer was formed unlike bulk passivation method. For the surface passivation method, the activation energy required to generate the 2D perovskite layer is lower than the bulk passivation method and it can be overcome at the annealing temperature. The 2d perovskite capping layer not only transforms unstable defects on the perovskite surface efficiently, but it also appropriately aligns the energy level to boost hole extraction ability. As a result, perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with a CRI 2d capping layer demonstrated 22.6% power conversion efficiency (PCE) and retained about 80% of initial PCE.
