The small molecules have a great advantageous for commercialization with ease of synthesis and well-defined molecular structure. Among them, the improved π-π stacked 2D structures attract many attentions. Herein, the new A-D-A type small molecule donor BDTID-Cl was synthesized. Compared with the BDTID-F, the chlorine atom can enhance the dipole moment, which shows the decreased intermolecular stacking distance and closer lamellar. Furthermore, because of the improved interaction with PC71BM, the BDTID-Cl showed well-mixed morphology without large-scale phase separation in blend structure. As a result, the fabricated device enhances JSC and FF, attaining the 10.5% PCE in small molecule organic solar cell, and 15.1% in tandem solar cell. This study provides an effective strategy for designing a high performance p-type SM in small molecule organic solar cells.
