Modeling nanostructured materials using block copolymers and polyelectrolytes

Nanostructured materials fabricated from block copolymers and ionic polymers including polyelectrolytes are expected to give breakthroughs for the development of energy conversion and storage devices. Here, we consider some systems of diblock copolymers and polyelectrolyte blends in order to discuss the design of such materials and their phase behaviors through self-consistent field approaches. Nanoscale phase separation in those systems not only of enthalpic origin but also of entropic origin is probed. In addition, the impact of the effective interactions beyond the conventional two-body level is to be investigated.
