Synthesis of spend coffee ground-based activated carbons for carbon dioxide capture

In recent years, mankind energy demands were being met by burning oil, coal and natural gas, which are considered the main sources of CO2 emissions, and accelerating the impact of global warming. Biomass-based activated carbons (ACs) are widely used as CO2 capturing materials. Biomass-based activated carbons were prepared from coffee grounds via solid-state K2C2O4 activation. Activating reagent ratio were changed to manipulate the properties and CO2 adsorption performance (e.g., uptake and regeneration). The high value-added biomass-based activated carbons prepared from waste coffee grounds have a potential of industrial application for CO2 capture.
