Light-Mediated Fabrication of Self-Healable Ionogels via Thiol-Ene Click Reaction

We demonstrate self-healable transparent ionogels fabricated by thiol-ene click reaction, which was performed with UV light illumination. The ionogel systems consist of photo-radical generator, thiol-containing multi-arm poly(ethylene oxide), various ionic liquids and diphenyl disulfide-containing crosslinker designed for self-healing capability. Fabricated ionogels exhibit optical transparency, conductivity, stretchability and self-healing ability feasible by disulfide metathesis reaction. This process was conducted by UV light-mediated radical-based reaction, hence, it can be exploited to form photopatterns by selective irradiation using photo-mask. Further, we show ionogel the formation of photo-patterns with different ionic liquids, and the fabrication of organic electrolyte-gated transistors providing decent organic thin film transistors, highlighting the applicability and the processability of the current materials design for practical electrical applications.
