Fabrication of Mobile Displays’ Acrylic Pressure Sensitive Adhesives via Visible Light Active Photoredox Catalysis

We manufactured visible-light-curable acrylic pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) for mobile displays using a photocatalyst. Mobile displays’ PSAs should be highly transparent, and thus it is required to decrease photocatalyst loading with minimal loss of polymerization rate. We employed three concepts to facilitate catalytic cycle of photocatalyst: using 1) typical monomers (N-vinyl monomers), 2) additives (haloesters), and 3) various photocatalysts and reductants. After that, acrylic PSAs were customized to mobile displays by considering Tg, viscoelasticity, crosslinking, adhesive strength, and other properties.
