A cyanostilbene-based reactive luminogen (CRL) was newly synthesized to fabricate polymer thin films with linearly polarized luminescence (LPL) properties. The synthesized CRL can be uniaxially oriented due to its nematic mesophase. Uniaxially oriented CRL molecules are subsequently crosslinked by thiol-ene reaction, which results in linearly polarized light emissive thin films. The fabricated polymer thin films have an emission band at 564 nm owing to aggregation-induced emission (AIE) effect of CRL. On the basis of the obtained PL spectra with a polarizer, the linearly polarization ratio of emissive light is calculated to be 2.25. As the emitted light from the CRL polymer thin film passes through the polarizer, 60% of the emitted light is transmitted. The polarized light emissive thin films containing AIE luminogen have a great potential for advanced optical applications.
