The field of sustainable plastics is a growing area of research. Polycondensation is a widely used method for the synthesis of polymers, and it has the potential to be adapted for the production of sustainable plastics composed of aliphatic polyesters. This can be achieved by using renewable resources as starting materials and implementing more environmentally friendly conditions during the polymerization process. Additionally, by utilizing in situ techniques, such as the incorporation of natural fillers, the mechanical properties of the resulting plastics are improved. Moreover, their biodegradability can be increased by designing polymer chain structures. Overall, the utilization of classical polycondensation methods towards the production of sustainable plastics can be a promising approach for addressing the environmental issues associated with traditional plastic production and disposal.
