내용
Thermally stable polymers are defined as polymers that maintain their chemical characteristics and physical properties at temperatures above 300 °C. Research on thermally stable polymers started in the late 1950s and focused on heterocyclic polymers and aromatic polyamides. The significant driving forces of thermally stable polymers are the needs of the aerospace industry and scientific curiosity. Representative thermally stable polymers are polybenzimidazoles (PBIs), polybenzoxazoles (PBOs), polybenzothiazoles (PBTs), and polyimides (PIs), which have aromatic units in the main chain. Among these polymers, aromatic PIs are one of the most important thermally stable polymers because of their chemical resistance, and excellent thermal, mechanical, and electrical properties. Aromatic PIs are used widely in the electronics industry for dielectric layers, packaging, photolithographic materials, etc. by solution casting method for formation of PI films due to their excellent chemical and physical properties. In here, the applications of thermally stable polymers will be discussed.
