Application of Radiative Cooling Technology: Window and Face Mask

Radiative cooling technology uses the atmospheric transparency window (8–13 µm) to inadvertently transfer heat from Earth into outer space (3 K). This technology has drawn a lot of interest from both fundamental sciences and real-world applications such as window film and face masks. Therefore, we fabricated a transparent film made of polymer materials for radiative cooling technology. We have studied the absorption coefficient for infrared radiation of different types of polymers and introduced a new concept of composite materials for radiative cooling. On the other hand, The radiative-cooling face mask made of polymer-based composites (PCM) was developed and tested to protect against dust and viruses. It also improves thermal comfort to block sunlight by reducing solar transmittance and emitting radiation by increasing IR emissivity with a single layer of silver nanoparticles for long-term face mask users. PCM The face mask can be a good solution for areas where the cooling performance of PPE masks/clothing is required.
