Recently, the development of stimuli-responsive polymeric structures is actively progressing to advance emerging applications such as 4D printing and soft robotics. However, there are still challenges in constructing complex architectures as well as achieving multi-functionality from the stimuli-responsive polymers. Herein, we present the utilization of dynamic bonds in polymer networks for realizing advanced stimuli-responsive structures. In addition to programmable, stimuli-responsive 3D shape-shifting capability, additional functionalities such as self-healing, reversible assembly, and recyclability can also be imparted into the polymer networks via exploiting the dynamic bond chemistry. By tailoring the molecular structure of the stimuli-responsive polymer networks, we successfully demonstrate versatile applications from macro- to micro-scales, including extrusion-based 4D printing, transformable soft robots, and regionally controllable structural color-switching surfaces.
