The formation of chemically crosslinked polymer networks is important in various research and industries. However, the process of chemical crosslinking generally requires the addition of an initiator and an activation process (such as a photo-initiator/ultraviolet, thermal initiator/high temperature, etc.) or the use of high-energy electromagnetic waves (such as e-beam or gamma-radiation, etc.), which can damage the polymers themselves as well as embedded components. In this talk, I will present a method for chemically crosslinking polymers under mild conditions, such as low-temperature (37 oC) annealing, shear-stress application, or solvent evaporation, using polymeric nanogels containing elastically activated peroxides present inside the polymer backbone.
