초록

내용
Polyphenol have received attention as universal coating precursors due to their versatility and eco-friendly characteristics. Especially, catechol and pyrogallol groups (act as anchoring groups) are crucial to form coatings on various substrates through oxidative reactions or complexation with metal ions. However, studies about polyphenol that don’t contain anchoring groups are rare. Curcumin is a polyphenol that doesn’t contain anchoring group. Recently, curcumin was shown to be a key molecule for the formation of turmeric-based coatings in substrate-independent coatings. As reactive hydroxyl groups would remain after curcumin coating, it’s speculated that coating can serve as reactive layer for further functionalization. In this study, we grafted poly(OEGMA) from the curcumin-coated substrates after anchoring α-bromoisobutyryl bromide via esterification. Compared to the controls, Poly(OEGMA)-grafted surface could suppress bacteria adhesion up to 99.4%. This curcumin-based antibacterial coatings could be applied to various substrates.
