Self-assembly of Aramid Nanofibrillar Separators for High-speed Lithium-metal Batteries

Self-assembly-assisted fabrications of micro and nanostructured materials have drawn great attentions in various fields of electrochemical applications, including energy storage and conversion systems. In this presentation, self-assembly based fabrications of aramid nanofibrillar composite films will be introduced for separators of lithium-metal-batteries. Internal structure of the nanocomposite films was controlled by phase-separation-induced fibrillar assembly to introduce extremely high porosity for the films with hierarchical pore sizes in micro and nanoscales. As a result, bulk ionic conductivities and ionic flux distributions were improved to effectively suppress Li dendrite formations during the prolonged charge-discharge cycles at high current densities >10C.
