The Printability of Hydrogels in Extrusion-Based 3D Bioprinting

Recently, 3D bioprinting of hydrogels has been widely used as a prospective technique in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Although hydrogels exhibit high biocompatibility and biomimicry, their weak and uncontrollable mechanical properties hinder precise printing and limit its applications. Therefore, in-depth understanding of rheological and viscoelastic behaviors of the hydrogels is significant to improve 3D printability of the hydrogels. In this study, therefore, various methods to improve and optimize 3D bioprinting of the hydrogels were explored to enhance the printability and bioactivity.
