Commercial poly(ether imide) (PEI) was evaluated as a binder for Si alloy-based anode materials of lithium ion batteries (LIB). The effects of thermal treatment on the electrochemical properties of PEI binder in a coin cell type LIB were also investigated. As as results, the Si alloy electrodes treated at a higher temperature exhibited high cycling performance. Therefore, the thermal treatment of PEI binder under the optimized conditions can be an effective method to improve the cycling performance of Si-based electrodes in LIB.
