The random copolymerization of methyl methacrylate with various methacrylate monomers was demonstrated via Cu(0)-mediated reversible deactivation radical polymerization (Cu(0)-RDRP). In kinetic studies, the apparent propagation rate constants and induction periods of the copolymerizations were estimated. The results highlight the effect of monomer structure to the kinetic parameters. Furthermore, we determined reactivity ratio based on the kinetic studies. The reactivity ratio values were varied from ideal random copolymerization pairs of methyl methacrylate and ethyl methacrylate. We further conducted comparison studies of the reactivity ratio values to the literature values from conventional free radical polymerization, highlighting the significance of our studies to gain deeper understanding of copolymerization via reversible deactivation radical polymerization.
